My path started in uniform. As a Non-Commissioned Officer and combat veteran of Operation Desert Shield / Desert Storm with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), I led the team that stood up the Deployable Intelligence Support Element (DISE) with the 66th Military Intelligence Brigade — an Echelon Above Corps unit. That work earned the Meritorious Service Medal. DISE was deemed important enough that I was released early from active duty to deploy with it, in civilian status, on its first live combat mission — Bosnia Peacekeeping.
