I've been an IC, an engineering manager, and a Head of Engineering across startups and enterprise (Rackspace, HashiCorp, Settle). I've built teams from scratch, inherited teams in crisis, and learned that the difference almost always comes down to the same things: clarity, trust, and systems that don't depend on heroes.
My approach to leadership centers on three things.
1. People: I build psychologically safe environments where engineers take ownership, grow into leaders, and do the best work of their careers.
2. Systems: I design the org structures, processes, and feedback loops that let teams scale without creating bottlenecks or burning people out.
3. Product: I connect engineering work to business outcomes so teams understand the why behind what they're building, not just the what.
I've led organizations through hypergrowth, navigated large-scale platform migrations, and built engineering cultures that retained top talent through turbulent markets. I care deeply about the craft of engineering leadership. I know how to make hard calls on org design, delivery, and technical strategy while keeping your team healthy and motivated.
Beyond my day job, I invest a lot of energy in the engineering leadership community. I write CodingBeenz (codingbeenz.beehiiv.com), a weekly newsletter on engineering leadership. I've mentored engineering leaders through Plato and PowerToFly. I'm an ODF 20 Fellow and was accepted into the Antler residency program. I've spoken at HashiConf, KubeCon, and Grace Hopper Celebration, written for LeadDev, and been a guest on podcasts covering topics from building team trust to keeping remote teams engaged to assembling advisory teams for career growth.
Always happy to connect, especially with engineering leaders figuring out what "good" looks like for their teams right now.
