- CThe Concept of Oligometastases in Colorectal Cancer: From the Clinical Evidences to New Therapeutic StrategiesCurrent Opinion in OncologyJan 2018Purpose of review: The concept of oligometastases, defining cancers with limited metastatic capacity and attaining a limited number of secondary sites, is now widely accepted, particularly in colorectal cancer. Currently, however, accurate predictive markers for oligometastatic tumors are still lacking. For this reason, it remains challenging to translate this concept into clinical recommendations. In the present work, we review recent publications on oligometastases in colorectal cancer, showing the evidences for such presentation and underlying the need for the identification of biomarkers, necessary to further develop new therapeutic strategies.
- HOsteonecrosis of the jaw: a case report and a critical review of surgical managementHospice Palliative Medicine International JournalJan 2017Osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) is a relatively rare but serious complication of bisphosphonates (and denosumab) therapy for which conservative or surgical treatment is advocated. We report an exemplative case and review recently published studies of surgical management of ONJ. The total population surveyed in those 7 studies included 1459 patients. Operative treatment was applied in 53-100% of the patients and non-operative treatment in 0-47%. Response after surgery was seen in 59-87% (actually 938 patients out of 1204-77% - responded). Non-operative treatment was successful in 20-100% (40 out of 250–16%-patients responded). The highest range of response was seen in stage 2 diseases (22-67%).
