    Since the adoption of the Lean principles by the software industry, the most widely spread project management framework was Scrum. It improves many of the pain points of the waterfall approach, but scrum still has many drawbacks which might hinder the project success and even push the teams to fall back into the old waterfall method.

    Other project methodology which has very positive effect in software projects is pure Kanban. Even though Kanban is probably the technique that is closest to pure Lean principles, it still has number of drawbacks and is applicable only in limited cases, primarily in service organizations and in operations.
