It's a privilege to join the Hixon Center for Climate and the Environment as administrator, supporting such an important mission and a dedicated team of faculty. I am fortunate to witness their hard work firsthand, whether in the classroom, the lab or the field, as they strive to build a hopeful future for the planet we share. A series of life-changing experiences led me to work for United Nations Messenger of Peace and environmental champion Dr. Jane Goodall at her namesake organization, the Jane Goodall Institute. From late-night emails to back-to-back tours across the world, I had the honor of working with and supporting Jane directly as part of the Office of the Founder – Global (OOF–G, or “GOOF,” as she affectionately called us). I will carry on her mission of hope for the rest of my life. In 2026, I returned to the Jane Goodall Institute as a consultant to support Mary Lewis, VP of the Office of the Founder – Global and Representative of the Founder. One of Jane’s greatest reasons for hope is the dedication of young people, and I believe that the students of Harvey Mudd live up to this inspiration. This past August, my wife and I relocated from bustling Washington to sunny Claremont to begin this exciting new chapter. The Harvey Mudd community has been beyond welcoming. From helping organize our biannual conference on climate education to bringing experts in climate action from across the country to our students, my first months at the Center have been exciting and uplifting.
