The Bay Area station is one of the larger affiliates in charge of maintaining viewers informed and establishing a good communication in the greater Bay Area. As a Newsroom Intern I worked closely with the assignment desk editor and producers. I helped set up the daybook in Dalet, edited using Dalet and Final Cut Pro. During live and recorded news casts I helped out in the sound booth, with cameras, and was quick to help in very fast paced situations.

District Office Intern

Senate District 15 is compromised of a large portion of Santa Clara County including much of Cupertino, Lost Gatos, Campbell, Saratoga, Monte Sereno, and the San Jose communities of Willow Glen, Almaden, Evergreen, East San Jose, and Downtown. It has incredibly diverse constituents and the Senate office is in charge of representing all of them fairly and giving them a voice. As a district office intern in the office of Senator Jim Beall I was in charge of researching casework, creating videos about different events, reaching out to constituents, taking initiative on projects, documenting events, organizing documents and information, and other tasks as assigned.

I began my time at MACLA as a volunteer and was hired on as a Program Assistant for the DMC Studio (formerly Peapod Adobe Youth Voices). -In addition to working daily with youth ages 12-18, and developing digital media workshops and engagement, I also created and implemented workflows, documents, and systems for the program. These were to track day to day activities, and also data that was used for grant reporting. -This role truly sparked my passion for working in roles that support and elevate underserved communities-- primarily youth.

Working for a Spanish media station opened me up to a multitude of experiences and stories that taught me about how underserved communities are impacted by day to day life. I gained skills that allowed me to support in planning the day in iNews, interviewing people for stories, shooting and editing news packages, and producing the Saturday recorded news show. I supported in writing and editing for an Emmy winning news story.
