    Jan 2003 - Current (23 years 7 months)
PC Flash Cards was conceived by Dr. Mary Gardner in 2003. Mary returned to college to pursue a career as a veterinarian after spending nearly a decade in the computer software industry. During her pre-vet coursework she found herself making hundreds of flashcards for every course from Biology to Economics. Although a useful study tool, handwritten flash cards became tedious, time consuming and took up lots of space in her office and backpack! She searched for a program that could automate flash card creation and studying, but was not able to find one with the flexibility she needed. So, she developed her own. Fast forward almost a decade and PCFlashCards is used by thousands of students across the globe and the product continues to evo

Pet Hospice Journal - Quality of Life Scale and Diary
    Oct 2012
As veterinarians we are often asked “When is the right time to euthanize my pet?” This is a very difficult question to answer but simply it should be based on the quality of life that pet has. However, this quality is made up of many different aspects in terminally ill or geriatric pets and many are based on the ailment the pet suffers from. Keeping a Pet Hospice Journal, which includes a Quality of Life Scale and a diary, will help pet owners and their veterinarian determine if medical management is needed or when the right time to say goodbye is. Our online journal provides a more flexible utility for pet owners as it bases criteria off of their disease.

Veterinary Hospice: Bridging the Gap Between Terminal Illness & Euthanasia
    Todays Veterinary Practice
    Feb 2013
Veterinary Hospice is defined as a family-centered, medically supervised, and team-oriented service dedicated to maintaining comfort and quality of life for the terminally ill pet until a natural death occurs or the family elects euthanasia. It's important to note that natural death is not the goal for veterinary hospice, it is simply a reality for many terminally ill pets whether they are in hospice care or not. The main purpose is comfort of the pet before death, whether from natural death or euthanasia. This care can take place in the clinic or home: the home is often preferred because it is where pets are most comfortable; however, education and medical direction begins at the clinic.
