Phillip Johnson

Senior engineering leader with over 25 years’ experience in software development and more than a decade leading and scaling engineering teams across fintech, SaaS, mobile, and enterprise platforms. Currently Head of Engineering at My Money Matters, where I’m accountable for software delivery, internal IT operations, and technical strategy for a financial benefits platform. I report directly to the Director of Product & Technology and remain technically hands-on, providing architectural leadership and setting engineering standards. I've introduced AI Augmented Software Development (Cursor and Claud Code). My recent work includes transitioning development from offshore partners to an onshore engineering team that I hired and onboarded, alongside leading delivery of new strategic initiatives including AI-driven triage capabilities (Google Vertex AI, RAG, ADK, Agent Engine) and a new mobile application. Our platform is built using React and React Native, with backend micro-services running on Google Cloud Platform. Previously, I’ve built and led engineering organisations of up to 70+ engineers, introduced career frameworks and progression models, modernised delivery practices, and supported organisations through periods of significant technical and cultural change. I’m comfortable operating at C-suite level while staying close to delivery and code where it adds the most value. Alongside industry experience, I hold an MBA in Technology Management and an MSc in Software Engineering, which strongly informs my approach to balancing technology, people, and commercial outcomes.
