VP Engineering
Oak Ridge, Tennessee, United States
I build and lead the engineering organizations that turn complex technical portfolios into commercial outcomes.
Over 25+ years I've operated across insurance technology, medical technology, nuclear and radiation safety, defense and homeland security, industrial IoT, and automotive manufacturing — as a hands-on engineer, a people leader, and a P&L owner. That range is deliberate. The pattern repeats: legacy platforms that need modernizing, distributed teams that need consolidating, roadmaps that need to tie to revenue, and regulated environments where "move fast" has to coexist with NQA-1, ISO 27001, FDA, HIPAA, and SOX.
What I've done repeatedly:
• Built organizations from scratch — a corporate R&D PMO spanning every division of the enterprise, then a centralized digital organization scaled into a large, multi-tiered, multi-site global team across North America, Europe, and Asia.
• Owned full P&L for an enterprise-scale digital portfolio, with accountability for revenue, margin, and cost structure — and materially expanded contribution margin on the digital product line.
• Modernized platforms — cloud-native rebuilds on Azure and AWS, DevSecOps pipelines that substantially lifted release velocity, meaningful reductions in technical debt and total cost of ownership.
• Led AI adoption as an operating discipline, not a demo — AI-assisted developer tooling (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot), agentic pipelines (CrewAI, LangChain), plus the governance layer: model cards, evaluation gates, prompt-injection defenses, PII handling.
• Ran M&A technology diligence and post-merger integration across a series of significant acquisitions, through a private-equity-backed pre-IPO cycle and into public-company operating discipline.
I'm a systems person by training and a commercial operator by practice. I read architecture diagrams and board decks with equal comfort, and I've spent my career translating between the two.
Outside work: ultramarathons, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, guitar, church, treehouses, and time with my family.
