    MDT/WDS Deployment failure - a learning experience!
    Jul 2013 - Current (13 years 2 months)
Entertainingly, with more time to prepare than the last Microsoft Deployment Toolkit outing, I was undone by budget machinery which lacked WinPE 4.0 drivers. A whole day (and a bit!) was wasted trying to track down network drivers (and testing alternates) before I gave up and looked at my options. Installing from scratch was unpalatable, so I pursued the MDT to media option. With a little bit of tweaking, it worked well, and installing 10GB isos from usb devices proved far from horrific. It's not ideal, but it can be done!

    MDT/WDS Deployment
    Jun 2013 - Current (13 years 3 months)
With prep time of 1 day I hit an essentially incommunicado (1meg DSL) brand new site with the VMWare server built and 4 virtual Windows 2012 servers hosted in its depths (including a fully stocked WSUS server, thank you 100Mb leased line!) Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2012 Update 1 was a dream to work with, and by the third day, the whole network was running sweetly, Windows 7 activated, updated and secured, Office running great and activated, and there was even time to accommodate the client's last minute demands for those items which definitely weren't in the spec! The job went better than I could have expected, which is fortunate, given the time constraints!
