    HRG developed a customized Geographic Information System (GIS) database for the City of Aberdeen’s potable water, storm sewer, and public sanitary sewer infrastructure networks.

    The project included Real Time Kinematic (RTK) GPS and conventional survey feature data collection. Mobile GIS technology and ArcGIS Desktop (ArcVIew) on a tablet PC were used for feature attribution and network development in the field. System database information was updated in the field and input from existing record drawings were scanned as part of the project. These documents were then linked to the City’s GIS.

    HRG’s survey crews collected over 11,000 utility features for this project. Survey efforts included potable water features such as

    Delaware DataMIL
    The Delaware DataMIL was built as a state of the art online web mapping application that provided accurate, up-to-date crowd sourced Delaware geospatial framework layers from state and county stakeholders. It was originally built as a pilot project for the US Geological Survey National Map and evolved to serve bi-weekly updated USGS topographic quads for the entire state of Delaware using official framework layers providing the most up-to-date topographic maps in the nation. The Delaware DataMIL ran from 2002 till it was transferred to a newer technology platform and retired in June 2013.

    Mobile GIS Development for MS4 Inspections
    HRG assisted Hampden Township, Cumberland County, PA in developing a Geographical Information System (GIS) that would aid in Municipal Separate Storm Sewer (MS4) inspections. Working with Township staff, it was decided to leverage existing Township installed IT infrastructure and software to develop and implement a mobile GIS solution using ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Online through an Android tablet.

    The first step involved designing an ESRI based geodatabase that reflected the requirements defined in the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) MS4 inspection report. Care was taken during the design phase to account for all possible inspection scenarios while minimizing the amount of fields required for data input.
